Welcome gift in the dish washer

That’s what the dishwasher looked like on our arrival day. Garth’s excuse:

“As you can see in the departure guidelines in the rental guide we ask that renters run the dishwasher as a courtesy for the next guests. I am sorry but the guests before you apparently did not run the dishwasher.”

But when paying $ 180.- for the cleaning I would actually expect that the cleaner would make sure, that the dishwasher is clean.

We washed and scrubbed the fridge three weeks ago

20110702-080849.jpgThis is for sure mold on the fridge door. Garth’s statement concerning the dirty fridge:

“We washed and scrubbed the fridge 3 weeks ago and Sarah, our cleaner, is asked to check it each week.”

Obviously she did not!

Mice enjoy pooing in the kitchen

This is what the silverware drawer looked like when we arrived. It was identified as mouse poo by someone with a masters degree in biology.

Suicidal Windows

When trying to open the window in one of the bedrooms on the first floor the whole window just fell down and the glass broke in pieces.

That’s what the ice racks looked like on our day of arrival. I have no idea how this dirt got into the ice.

Dead mouse in the living room

There were two dead mice in various stages of decomposing inside the bench in the living room. Seems to me that the cleaning person is only responsible for raw surface cleaning.

Table minus one leg

20110701-084231.jpgThe leg just spontaniously fell off. Luckily the kids were playing in the other corner of the room at the moment.

Somehow the collection of pans was really fascinating. There were the ones that once had a non-stick-coating which was now more or less off and then there were the ones without coating but with rust instead.

For a cleaning fee of $ 180.- it was surprisingly dirty inside the kitchen cupboards.

Super Eco Water Tab

That sure was the slowest water tab we have ever seen in our life.

Innovative wiring in the living room

Comment of our friend from Arizona who happens to be a lawyer:

Pretty sure that it’s not legal to rent out a home with those wiring deficiencies. Pretty ballsy price for a place that should be condemned!!!

Multipurpose power cable and handicap rail

That’s by the way the downstairs restroom which to our big surprise didn’t feature a lock. Garth’s comment:

We do not have a lock and our family has never needed one.

TV not working

When we arrived, we reported to Garth that the television was not working. Garth’s answer:

The TV works

After complaining again he wrote us

I called the TV service provider, Comcast, and the bill is paid, the service is active to the house, and there are no issues reported in the area. They need to talk to someone on-site to troubleshoot the problem so they are about to call you. If they do not call you (or you are out of the house now) please call 1-800-266-2278 to troubleshoot.

We then called this number but they couldn’t help us for the simple reason, that they wanted Garth’s social security number. We again contacted Garth who then contacted the provider. They figured out that there was really a problem. So 4 days after our arrival they fixed it.

20110707-075749.jpgIt looks like a mosquito screen, but without the wire it’s not very functional.
